ムズムズ脚症候群の寒冷療法

方法:強度の(i.e.-90°C) 全身冷凍刺激(whole-body cryostimulationWBC)自己報告による疲労、覚醒時の眠気、幸福度を治療前、治療中、治療後に数回測定することにより、RLS患者における凍結刺激の有効性を評価する(毎日3分間の強度のWBC)。結果:有害事象は発生していません。報告された眠気のレベルは、治療段階の開始直後に減少しました。同時に、自己申告による幸福感が大幅に増加しました。効果の大きさは大きかった。結論:要約すると、本研究は、密閉された空間での2週間の極低温空気への毎日の曝露が、睡眠障害を有する高齢患者の身体的および心理的状態を促進するのに実現可能で効果的であることを実証した。

Abstract

BACKGROUND:

We aimed at evaluatingthe feasibility and effects of intense (i.e. -90°C) whole-body cryostimulation(WBC) on somnolence and psychological well-being in an older-adult patientdiagnosed with restless legs syndrome (RLS).

METHODS:

An interrupted timeseries approach was used in which the efficacy of cryostimulation was evaluatedby measuring self-reported fatigue, wake time sleepiness, and well-beingseveral times prior to, during, and after exposure to treatment (i.e. daily3-min sessions of intense WBC).

RESULTS:

No adverse eventoccurred. Reported levels of sleepiness decreased immediately following thebeginning of the treatment phase. In the same time, self-reported well-beingsignificantly increased. Effects sizes were of large magnitude.

CONCLUSION:

In summary, thepresent study demonstrated that daily exposure to extremely cold air in anenclosed space for 2 weeks was feasible and effective in promotingphysical and psychological states in an older patient with sleep disturbances.
